Description

MAFAPS is a courses dealing with the issues related to de-carbonisation of merchant shipping worldwide. The subject matter includes the handling, storage and combustion of alternative fuels and the use of alternative power systems such as fuel cells.

Benefit of this resource and how to make the best use of it

Merchant ships currently burn heavy fuel oil. Alternative fuels such as Methanol, Ammonia and Hydrogen have been proposed as alternatives but each fuel has complex handling, storage and combustion requirements. The course deals with these issues as well as future developments such as fuel cells. The entire course can be taken or individual blocks of particular interest. Components of the course to be extracted and re-used in other contexts.

Email edtech@mtu.ie if you would like to be sent a Canvas export of the course.
