Coding theory is a major component of Applied Algebra. It has many applications in the mathematics of communications and has many links with other scientific disciplines, such as electrical engineering and computer science. Coding theory arises in almost every imaginable digital communications and storage system. In UCD, it is taught at the undergraduate level in the module MATH30180 An Introduction to Coding Theory.

Technology Enhanced Learning: What works and why?
About this initiative
The What Works and Why project aimed to build digital literacy and engagement for students and teachers in Irish higher education. The basic premise was there is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to the effective use of new digital technologies for teaching and learning. Staff and student digital literacy was enhanced through workshops, seminars, drop-in clinics, small-scale innovation projects, and peer-mentoring groups, which resulted in a collection of guides and resources that shared lessons on what works and why with respect to the digital dimension of teaching and learning.
