Coding theory is a major component of Applied Algebra. It has many applications in the mathematics of communications and has many links with other scientific disciplines, such as electrical engineering and computer science. Coding theory arises in almost every imaginable digital communications and storage system. In UCD, it is taught at the undergraduate level in the module MATH30180 An Introduction to Coding Theory.
Enhancing Digital Literacies for Language Learning and Teaching
Digilanguages
About this initiative
In the context of the need for continued economic growth, language skills and proficiency are essential. Against this backdrop, and the need for more flexible support for language learners during various transition periods, this project developed a digital interface for language learning and teaching. It is intended as a student support mechanism, and also as an online learning tool for a number of different purposes. The materials and resources are for the following languages: English, French, German, Irish, Italian and Spanish. The project aimed to support the transition experiences of higher education first year students, study abroad students, and language teachers, with resources also being of interest and benefit to others. The project has had an important impact on the curriculum review processes of partner institutions with tangible effects of the integration of digital literacies into modules and programmes.
