Title of InitiativeFuture Modelling for students and educators with Knoweau
Initiative Overview

Future Modelling is designed to provide a standardized and transparent method for the definition of long-term strategies in any field and for any purpose. The framework combines elements of traditional foresight with systems thinking, trend research, design thinking and experience design.

IADT collaborated with KNOWEAUX Applied Futures - a Berlin-based Consultancy for Transformative Future Learning Experiences. Carl Manuel Funk provided the training to IADT students along with Public Design Lab (PDL) lecturers; this workshop was open for wider participation across the sector. Carlis an expert in transformation, innovation, and digitalisation with more than 20 years of experience. He is a strategic consultant for many international companies (industry, education, NGOs) M.A. Leadership Digital Innovation at UdK Berlin & University of St.Gallen.

Students and staff had a chance to learn from international experts in foresight and systems thinking, Public Design Lab (PDL) researchers are employing further future literacy and systems thinking, the framework, strategies and tools in the future curriculum.

Through this action-research workshop participants revealed, reframed and rethought the assumptions they use to imagine the future. The workshop created a close link to the future and the process of climate emergency, and by doing so, engaged with future thinking and expanded the future literacy skills listed by UNESCO as an essential competency for the 21st century.

Lead collaborators on this Local Enhancement Project: Justyna Doherty (justyna.doherty@iadt.ie) and Peter Evers (peter.evers@iadt.ie).
