Teaching and learning initiative

Increasing Science Literacy in the Post-Truth Era Academic Integrity and Ethical Practice

SATLE
Academic Integrity

About this initiative

The project addressed science-related misinformation by strengthening students’ understanding of academic integrity, research ethics, and scientific communication. It mapped relevant topics across the science curriculum, including peer review, preprints, retractions, data fabrication and falsification, and emerging issues relating to AI-generated content. The findings informed the development of a science competence framework to support future curriculum and syllabus design. The project also produced an academic article and a white paper outlining its findings and recommendations. Through these activities, students developed the knowledge and vocabulary needed to evaluate scientific claims, distinguish between different forms of research evidence, recognise misinformation in mass and social media, and understand the consequences of unethical research and publication practices.
