Coding theory is a major component of Applied Algebra. It has many applications in the mathematics of communications and has many links with other scientific disciplines, such as electrical engineering and computer science. Coding theory arises in almost every imaginable digital communications and storage system. In UCD, it is taught at the undergraduate level in the module MATH30180 An Introduction to Coding Theory.
About this initiative
The aim of the project was to explore how immersive technologies might be used to enhance the student experience. As an active teaching tool, VR allows students to engage with content in an authentic environment (e.g. Events) or immersive experience (e.g. historical tourism). Using a co-constructivist approach, students are included in the design and evaluation of the learning experience and engage at a cognitive, behavioural and affective level with VR.
