Coding theory is a major component of Applied Algebra. It has many applications in the mathematics of communications and has many links with other scientific disciplines, such as electrical engineering and computer science. Coding theory arises in almost every imaginable digital communications and storage system. In UCD, it is taught at the undergraduate level in the module MATH30180 An Introduction to Coding Theory.
About this initiative
The LevUL Up Digital Skills Hub (DSH) is CTL’s institution-wide platform on Brightspace for developing students’ (and increasingly staff’s) universal baseline digital capabilities. Built by the CTL Digital Skills team, it comprises a framework-informed introduction to digital skills and capabilities (Jisc/DigComp), the Jisc Discovery self-assessment tool, a growing Digital Essentials suite of self-paced resources, and a semesterly live workshop calendar. DSH resources are embeddable in curricula (currently embedded in 14 modules), can contribute to graded coursework, and are openly licensed (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) for sector reuse.
