Coding theory is a major component of Applied Algebra. It has many applications in the mathematics of communications and has many links with other scientific disciplines, such as electrical engineering and computer science. Coding theory arises in almost every imaginable digital communications and storage system. In UCD, it is taught at the undergraduate level in the module MATH30180 An Introduction to Coding Theory.
Transformation Through Collaboration – Building Digital Literacy in HEIs
About this initiative
The Transformation through Collaboration project focused on demonstrating the ways in which technology can be used to solve education challenges across disciplinary contexts. The project involved the recruitment and training of staff as Digital Champions in each partner institution, allowing the instructional design teams to reach out to people who might not have before engaged in a conversation around applying technology to their teaching practices. 45 staff became champions for the improvement of digital literacy and digital skills within their academic disciplines, their departments and ultimately across the regional cluster. Events and blogs allowed the champions to share their learning and examples of best practice in the use of digital in teaching and learning. The project also resulted in enhanced collaboration between instructional designers and staff and the practice of those who teach being supported to share good practice examples with colleagues has continued within the partner institutions.
