Coding theory is a major component of Applied Algebra. It has many applications in the mathematics of communications and has many links with other scientific disciplines, such as electrical engineering and computer science. Coding theory arises in almost every imaginable digital communications and storage system. In UCD, it is taught at the undergraduate level in the module MATH30180 An Introduction to Coding Theory.
Innovate, Integrate, Impact: Challenge-based learning (CBL) in Higher Education
About this initiative
Learning outcomes: Attendees will be able to: Articulate the principles and key components of Challenge Based Learning (CBL), including its role in promoting critical thinking, problem-solving, and interdisciplinary collaboration when responding to challenges within the university context related to sustainability, equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI), and digital transformations. Demonstrate the ability to design and integrate Challenge Based Learning into their teaching, learning, and assessment strategies for modules, programmes and research, showcasing the adaptability of CBL across various academic contexts. Identify and analyse industry-informed (higher education) challenges within the university context related to sustainability, diversity and inclusion, and digital transformations. Critically evaluate the applicability and effectiveness of CBL in the context of Technological Universities in Ireland through providing constructive feedback on the challenges, opportunities, and potential enhancements for implementing CBL in their specific institutional setting.
