Coding theory is a major component of Applied Algebra. It has many applications in the mathematics of communications and has many links with other scientific disciplines, such as electrical engineering and computer science. Coding theory arises in almost every imaginable digital communications and storage system. In UCD, it is taught at the undergraduate level in the module MATH30180 An Introduction to Coding Theory.

Decolonization of Teaching & Learning in Higher Education: Contemporary Perspectives on Working with Students from Different Social, Cultural and Political Backgrounds
About this initiative
1. Underpinned by the main theories, principles and concepts, arrive at a shared understanding of the meaning of decolonization in higher education and why this is important for T&L and assessment specifically in the context of SETU. 2. Develop and demonstrate the application of appropriate practical strategies for including principles of decolonization in our teaching, learning, assessment and pedagogical approaches. 3. Critically examine and iterate the practical strategies for decolonization which have been developed. 4. Develop the skills to assess our own teaching and learning practice, and make theoretically informed decisions about when and how to apply appropriate decolonialization approaches.
