With continuing advance of mobile technology, cloud computing, network connected sensors and devices, Agri-Food sector is currently in the fast-moving Industry 4.0 digital transition. Challenge arises in higher education particularly technological universities, is to build up well-prepared teaching & learning (T&S) capacities to facilitate an engaging, inclusive and sustainable learning practices that our learners can quickly adopt and deploy relevant concepts with practical knowledge and skill. Focusing on current trend of digital and green transition in the Agri-Food sector, the proposed project SMART-IoT aims to develop a digital platform using small sensors (i.e. temperature, moisture, humidity, light) to monitor the Agri-Food environment, with the concept of Internet-of-Things (IoT) and practical hands-on training embedded in an engaging T&L environment, showcasing a strong linkage between classroom T&L and real-world applications. In line with the new strategy [ESD to 2030, the 2nd] Priority Action Area 2 [transforming learning environment] & Area 3 [building capacities of educators], SMART-IoT will form the building blocks of more engaging and inclusive teaching and learning environment for both educators and learners, to ensure students up-take complicated concepts (such as IoT, digital twins) through interactive and inclusive learning and to develop key dispositions and skills required. A universal design for learning (UDL) will be applied throughout the project, with embedded opportunities for industry connection, collaboration, and peer learning. Align with SETU Strategic Plan 2023-2028, SMART-IoT will position SETU at the forefront of innovation on research and teaching, driving smart technology usage for advancing the achievement of SDG goals. With the use of digital technology underpins an ethos of accessible, inclusive, and open-source learning, SETU staff will have the option to use SMART-IoT as a showcase for several academic tasks including curriculum design and re-design, assessment, promoting good practices in digital learning environment and assist staff in research-informed teaching.
