The Literature Wall at SETU Waterford satisfies all three aims of SATLE Fellowships. It reflects a need for an increased shift towards Challenge-based learning (CBL) as a way of cultivating academic integrity and responding to the challenges associated with GenAI in teaching and learning. In addition, it utilises digital resources to bring the arts into the everyday lives of students and staff on campus and to enhance and extend the learning experience for students. Finally, it is a sustainable way to develop innovation in our teaching methods (as it will be a reusable tool, year on year), and embed collaboration and peer-learning into our teaching and learning practice. A poem at the heart of a first year module in English on the BA Arts programme (“Fugue for young & fugitive” by Nidhi Zak/Aria Eipe) will form the focus of the Literature Wall in its first iterations. The Literature Wall will display the poem as well as student observations on its form and content. Week by week, as students’ perspectives change and develop, the comments that surround the poem change on the wall. Ideally, passers-by could also interact with it, leaving their thoughts and observations for consideration. After the first semester, other staff in the English and Theatre Studies team could use the wall for their own T&L initiatives, e.g. it might feature literature on topical issues, display examples of student work or offer Arts-based T&L solutions for staff and students on campus. The Literature Wall will comprise two stages: 1. The Proof of Concept stage, which will focus mainly on the front-end and back-end design of the software (which will comprise this application); 2. The funding of equipment needed based on the design requirements (this may be a projector with networked PC, giant TV display, digital stand, etc.).
