Academic Advising Initiative

The initiative developed an institutional framework for academic advising to support student success, aligned with the university’s mission and values. Developed in partnership with students and through consultation with the wider university community, the framework was designed to accommodate different disciplinary contexts, student cohorts, and advising needs. The project was overseen by an academic advising working group and supported by a core teaching and learning team. Its work included researching existing advising practices and international models; piloting different approaches across programmes and schools; exploring technology-enhanced, online, and flipped advising models; providing professional development, resources, and role guidance for staff; and developing policies to support university-wide implementation. The initiative established shared objectives and principles for academic advising and introduced undergraduate pilots supported by training and practical resources. It aimed to help students make informed academic and professional decisions while promoting equitable, consistent, flexible, and scalable advising practices.
