Coding theory is a major component of Applied Algebra. It has many applications in the mathematics of communications and has many links with other scientific disciplines, such as electrical engineering and computer science. Coding theory arises in almost every imaginable digital communications and storage system. In UCD, it is taught at the undergraduate level in the module MATH30180 An Introduction to Coding Theory.
About this initiative
The project aims to address the digital transformation theme, UDL and sustainability and help and support developing a new standardised approach to the whole university module design and redesign requirements across all the institutional campuses which is LMS neutral. With the current situation with multiple LMSs and the future situation with only one LMS according to all university strategies. The project will include collaboration with various focus groups from the Carlow, Wexford and Waterford campuses for feedback and needs analyses. It will encourage collaboration within and with other universities and support the research initiatives in that field. The research stage will include analyses of the different level SETU modules (undergraduate, postgraduate, etc.) and other examples of module design in Ireland and abroad. The project will include smaller projects performed in collaboration with staff from different campuses for module redesign practices.
