Coding theory is a major component of Applied Algebra. It has many applications in the mathematics of communications and has many links with other scientific disciplines, such as electrical engineering and computer science. Coding theory arises in almost every imaginable digital communications and storage system. In UCD, it is taught at the undergraduate level in the module MATH30180 An Introduction to Coding Theory.
Possibilities and Opportunities for the Biographic Narrative Interpretative Method (BNIM): Digital Innovation, Adaptability and Communities of Practice (COP)
About this initiative
This project builds an innovative Community of Practice (COP) for narrative, biographic researchers across all three SETU campuses (Waterford, Wexford, Carlow) with the express aim of capacity building amongst staff and graduate/postgraduate students in the area of biographic narrative interviewing. Biographical, narrative interviewing techniques have increased in prominence in social scientific disciplines including social care, education and social work in the last decade, and are used increasingly by transdisciplinary researchers. This proposal addresses the overall aim of the funding call, innovations in education for sustainable development (ESD) and aligns directly with sub-themes 1 and 2, and the priority action areas specified in the National Strategy on ESD to 20301 . It will achieve this alignment through a series of cross-campus initiatives aimed at building expertise, through which we aim to enhance extant SETU knowledge of these approaches targeting the illustrated project outreach pathways.
