GenAI in Research: Community of Practice

The GenAI in Research: Community of Practice (CoP) will be established as part of SETU’s Working Group on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Research, a subgroup of the GenAI Steering Committee. The objectives of the CoP are:

• To foster an open culture of discussion on AI in research.

• To promote ethical AI use.

• To enhance AI literacy skills among researchers and postgraduate research students.

• To understand AI use across different disciplines at SETU.

• To support innovative applications of AI in research and learning.

• To encourage interdisciplinary and cross-campus collaboration.

The CoP supports several of SATLE’s aims and themes:

• Digital Transformation: The CoP will explore AI’s impact on research, foster AI

literacy, and support institutional policies on AI use.

• Academic Integrity: The initiative will promote the responsible and ethical use of AI in research.

• Interdisciplinary and collaboration: By engaging researchers, postgraduate students, and academic staff across disciplines and campuses.

Implementation plan: The CoP will consist of in-person events taking place bimonthly (4 sessions March-Nov 2025) on a selected topic for registered members. Anyone who engages in research can register to become a member. We will set up a membership platform and issue a call for participation to academic staff, researchers, postgraduate researchers and support staff. We will also develop a schedule of themes and speakers (co-created by the CoP to respond to their needs). The bimonthly sessions will be a mix of: 1. In-person: Expert-led talks (invited guests) followed by discussions. 2. In-person: Collaborative hands-on working sessions experimenting with different AI tools. In each session, we will:

• share relevant resources (e.g. guidelines, case studies, frameworks).

• document key discussions and insights to inform SETU policies.

• monitor the use of GenAI tools by members.
