ALTITUDE – National Charter for Universal Design in Tertiary Education

The ALTITUDE Community of Practice brings together students and staff across further and higher education who are committed to embedding Universal Design in their practice and institutions.

About

ALTITUDE is Ireland’s National Charter for Universal Design (UD) in Tertiary Education. The ALTITUDE Community of Practice is facilitated by AHEAD (Association for Higher Education Access and Disability). It offers a supportive space to build capacity, exchange resources and practical solutions, share experiences and promote systemic change.

Membership spans Further Education and Training and Higher Education. It includes students, academics, teaching and professional staff, staff in leadership and support roles, and non-commercial organisations that support these sectors. Members come from institutions that have adopted ALTITUDE and from those considering it.

The community connects through:

  1. Community sessions: two to three mostly online sessions a year, with members helping to choose topics and share their own practice.
  2. A private LinkedIn group for ongoing discussion, resources, research and updates.
  3. A biennial ALTITUDE Summit, a national hybrid gathering. The next is in March 2028.
  4. Informal meetups at other UD and education events.
  5. A shared resource area on this Hub.
