About the Hub
About the National
Resource Hub
Open resources, shared initiatives and connected communities for teaching and learning in Irish higher education.
A national home for shared practice
The National Resource Hub brings together teaching and learning resources, enhancement initiatives and the people and communities behind them. It helps educators, students, professional staff and institutions discover ideas, share their work and learn from practice across Irish higher education and beyond.
Developed by the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, the Hub builds on that collaborative legacy as part of the Higher Education Authority’s (HEA) work to support excellence in teaching and learning.

Our strategic context
Supporting a collaborative sector
The HEA Strategy for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education sets out six strategic priorities: Lead, Fund, Recognise, Collaborate, Consult and Develop.
Under Collaborate, the strategy commits to maintaining and expanding the National Resource Hub for OER. It also promotes open education, knowledge sharing and networks that connect teaching and learning practice across institutions.
By making resources discoverable alongside the initiatives and communities that produce them, the Hub helps people find relevant practice and build on work across the sector.
Collaborate
The Hub’s place in the strategy centres on:
- Sharing teaching and learning knowledge.
- Supporting open educational resources and practices.
- Connecting institutions and communities.
Our story
Built on a commitment to openness
The Hub grew from the National Forum’s 2019–2021 strategy, which identified the need for a way to compile and share open teaching and learning resources within and across disciplines.
Designed through extensive sector consultation, it created a shared space for discovering and sharing OER. Today, the Hub also connects those resources with enhancement initiatives and the people and communities involved.
International recognition
Recognised by UNESCO
The National Resource Hub was named a laureate of the 2022 UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize for the Use of ICT in Education, announced in 2023.
The award recognised the use of public digital platforms to widen inclusive access to educational content.
Use and contribute
Use and share resources
Open educational resources are materials that can be accessed and reused under an open licence or because they are in the public domain. Depending on the licence, they may also be adapted and shared.
Check the licence and any conditions attached to each resource before you reuse or adapt it, and give attribution where required. The Hub guides explain how to find, use and share resources.
