The project developed a framework for designing, delivering, deploying, and analysing computer-based examinations. It explored approaches that extended existing virtual learning environment capabilities while addressing student needs, Universal Design principles, assessment integrity, and challenges posed by large language models. The project’s principal outputs were a software prototype for creating computer-based quizzes—including potentially unique examinations for individual students—with straightforward integration into the virtual learning environment, and practical guidelines covering the full examination process. The framework supported more accessible computer-based input, reduced opportunities for plagiarism, and promoted fairness. It also enabled practice examinations and self-assessment quizzes, helping students prepare effectively and reduce test anxiety. The project further supported knowledge-sharing networks around computer-based assessment at institutional, national, and international levels.
