Technology enhanced classroom: Dipping your toes in a sustainable way

The Technology Enhanced Classroom: Digital Education Workshops This initiative aims to support lecturers and staff in integrating technology into their teaching practices in an engaging, practical, and sustainable way. The Education Digital Workshops will introduce educators to digital tools, with a specific focus on Kahoot—an accessible, interactive platform that enhances student engagement through gamification. Kahoot is a game-based learning platform that enhances student engagement through interactive quizzes, live competitions, and self-paced challenges, making learning more enjoyable, inclusive, and effective. Many students entering higher education are already familiar with Kahoot from secondary school, where it is associated with active learning and enjoyment. By incorporating this tool into third-level classrooms, lecturers can create an interactive and inclusive learning environment, particularly beneficial for those new to educational technology. Kahoot’s compatibility with learning management systems ensures seamless integration into existing teaching frameworks. To support adoption, I will deliver short, hands-on workshops (maximum two hours) designed to equip lecturers with the skills and confidence to use digital tools effectively. These sessions will be held in-person across all campuses, allowing for direct engagement, tailored guidance, and a deeper understanding of lecturers’ specific needs. This initiative aligns with the Digital Transformation theme of the funding call by promoting the meaningful use of technology in education. It also supports **Inclusive Teaching & Learning**, ensuring that all lecturers—regardless of prior experience with digital tools—can enhance student engagement and participation through accessible, interactive methods. By fostering a culture of digital confidence among lecturers, this project will contribute to long-term, sustainable improvements in teaching and learning practices across the institution.
