Our work aligns with enhancing education for sustainable development, and embedding opportunities for peer learning and collaboration on ESD through transformative pedagogy and transdisciplinary approaches. Our work seeks to revitalise enterprise education by integrating place as a signature pedagogy (SP) further ensuring its relevance in our changing world. Over 18 months we have collaborated on innovating the teaching of place inside and outside the Business School and have presented papers on our pedagogical innovations and regenerative enterprise at several conferences. The funding will be used to build on this work of creating a new signature pedagogy (Shulman, 2005) in regenerative enterprise based on place. There is a compelling case for future research and innovation of pedagogic practice taking the signature pedagogy lens (Charles and Nicoll, 2023; Stoten, 2023; Jones, 2019. We propose to experiment with developing teaching of place as a SP and position it as a transformative approach to regenerative enterprise education. Signature pedagogies (SP) are described by Shulman (2005) as “types of teaching that organise the fundamental ways in which future practitioners are educated”. Accordingly, SPs should not be static; with disruption and innovation lying at the heart of enterprise and entrepreneurship, it behoves enterprise pedagogy to embrace change and adapt and innovate in line with changing circumstances and environments. Against this backdrop place as a signature pedagogy in enterprise education provides a tangible and relatable basis through which sustainability and regenerative practices can be developed. Our overall aim is to write and present a conference paper at the Irish Academy of Management Conference- Maynooth University August 25. Positioned in the Teaching and Learning track, we will disseminate our work but also gain valuable feedback improving both our own pedagogy in the regenerative enterprise space, but also to progress the conference paper into a journal publication in 2026.
